Friends and relatives in distraught as 48-year-old woman marries her son’s 19-year-old friend

A couple has raised eyebrows not only for their 29-year age gap but also for the fact that the groom is the best friend of the bride’s son.

Mrs. Marylin Buttigieg, 60, and her husband William Smith, 31, are living in Crawley town, West Sussex state, England. They got married 12 years ago despite a 29-year age gap and relatives’ confrontations.

Marylin is now an entrepreneur while William is a movie producer. They first met in June 2006 when Marylin’s son invited William home after school because they were very close friends. It turned out to be a destination for William and he fell in love with his best friend’s mom. On the flipside, Mrs. Marylin also got into William’s charm which she couldn’t get out.

Less than 3 years after that, on the Spring of 2009, Mrs. Marylin and William officially got married and moved in. Their marriage has undergone a number of confrontations, criticism, and suspicions; however, up to the present, they are still a happy couple after 12 years.

On recalling back to 2006 when William was just 16, he was so much into playing video games with her son and started to help with any chore around the house.

Later on, when Marylin was diagnosed with Myalgic, a long-lasting disease that causes fatigue and many other symptoms, Williams came to help her with many things. Ultimatel, their relationship turned into love. Both Marylin and William admitted they were drawn into each other.

In the beginning, they were both worried and reluctant to keep the relationship as they were criticized by other family members and friends. Many couldn’t bear the fact that Marylin’s son had to call his friend step-father.

Marylin shared: “I don’t want to take away Willian’s life. I want to have more children but I don’t want to prevent William from having a fulfilling family. To be honest, we are both attracted to each other”.

On the other hand, William got off his chest: “I had to persuade her so much. She always asked me to make sure that was what I truly wanted and I was 100% sure!”

At last, Marylin and William made up their minds to advance no matter of their age gap and social stereotype. Marylin disclosed that excluding one of her children, everyone went against her., William, for that, became less intimate with her family.

In February 2009, William proposed Marylin and got accepted. In April 2009, the couple officially got married.

Marylin expressed that after 12 years, they are still happy together while their relationships with people improve as they no longer suspect their love.

Marylin said: “I told William to kiss me on the streets because we don’t have to care about others. I am proud of him and our relationship.”

Now, the 29-year gap couple are planning to make a movie about their story. William revealed: “We want to tell our story in our way and to change people’s mindset about an age gap relationship”.
