MBC owes Mzuzu City Council MK746,000

Mzuzu city council has embarked on a resource mobilization campaign to recover K1.5 billion, that some city landlords are owing it in form of unpaid city and ground rates.

Amongst the defaulters is the State broadcaster, Malawi Broadcasting Station – MBC which has not paid ground rates that have accumulated to K746, 000.

This morning, a team from Mzuzu City Council led by Chairperson of the finance committee Councilor, Hiwett Mkandawire almost sealed the broadcasting house to force it to pay the debt.

Mkandawire says authorities have promised to settle the debt, before close of business today.

Meanwhile, a number of both public and private structures are at the risk of closure as the city landlord is out to collect what belongs to her.
