Chimwendo Banda summons MCP youth over bizarre security to Chakwera

Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda has condemned actions of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth for compromising the security of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the capital Lilongwe.

On Tuesday, President Chakwera presided over the ground breaking ceremony of the six lane Kenyatta Drive, at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC).

But as the President was passing Parliament Round About MCP youth clad in party regalia invaded the President’s convoy offering security.

The move taken by the youth attracted mixed reactions with many condemning the action as it exposed Chakwera to security lapse.

Reacting to the move, Chimwendo Banda who is also Director of Youth has summoned the leaders to an emergency meeting.

“What has happened today by some Youth at Parliament round about is bad and MUST never happen again. I know we are all excited to see the President and move with the President but this is unacceptable at all. I have called for a meeting of Youth Group Leaders to Address this.

“Malawi Congress Party youth are well known for good discipline and we must continually guard this,” wrote Chimwendo Banda.

Meanwhile social commentator Onjezani Kenani has hailed Chimwendo Banda for a swift action.

“It’s great that the Director of Youth in the Malawi Congress Party has strongly rebuked this conduct. Izi sizitithandiza izi. This nonsense must stop,” wrote Kenani.
