Son Kills Mom With A Broom

Residents of rural village called Matangari, just outside of Thohoyandou in Limpopo, South Africa are still in shock after a 28-year-old man allegedly killed his mother in the early hours of Sunday, September 5th, after demanding food.

Mukhethwa Tshivhase, who was charged with murder after allegedly killing Caroline Tshivhangwaho Khomola (58) with a broomstick, made a brief appearance in the Thohoyandou Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 7.

He apparently began by accusing her of hiding his meals in her bedroom.

The case has been rescheduled until Monday, September 13th, in order for the accused to file a formal bail application and obtain legal representation. He was taken into jail and remanded.

Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, a Limpopo NPA regional spokeswoman, said Khomola was asleep when Tshivhase returned home in the early hours of the morning and demanded food.

“He began whining about his mother keeping the food he was supposed to eat hidden from him. The accused became enraged as a result of the disagreement. He then proceeded to assault her with a broomstick. She attempted to flee but fell at the gate. “She was brought to Donald Fraser Hospital and was declared dead on arrival,” Malabi-Dzhangi explained.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a police spokesman, said that authorities were looking into a murder case following the event. Tshivhase was sentenced to three years in jail for attempted murder in 2015, he added. He was then sentenced to six months probation in 2009 for auto theft in Kagiso, Mogale City.

Meanwhile, in March, Thanyani Justice Alilali allegedly used an axe to slay his 104-year-old gogo after accusing her of putting saliva into his cup of water.

Substance abuse has a major impact on individuals, families and the community, and it affects people financially and physically. It also contributes to health-related problems.

According to the Department of Social Development (2012), National Drug Master Plan (2013-2017) define substance abuse as the abuse of legal and illegal drugs including alcohol, inhalants, over-the-counter drugs, prescribed drugs and indigenous plants. South Africa has experienced an alarming increase in substance abuse and addiction.
