DPP attributes Mchacha’s attack on rising costs of essential goods on the market

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said the attack of its Regional Governor for the South Charles Mchacha is a result of the escalating prices of goods and services in the country.

DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba said this when condemning the assault of Mchacha.

Mchacha is allegedly to have been attacked by unknown people at Bvumbwe in Thyolo and is currently admitted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH).

“The Democratic Progressive Party – DPP has learnt with great sadness the brutal attack on Honourable Charles Mchacha who is the party’s Regional Governor for the South. This brings to attention matters of security of citizens of this country. The DPP seeks a thorough investigation on this matter.

“We are also mindful of the harsh life Malawians are going through under the prevailing economic hardships under the MCP Government. The escalating prices of goods and services as a consequence of the worsening economic environment is driving Malawians into crime as desperation creeps in,” said Namalomba.

He added: “In the same breath, cognisant of the fact that Hon Mchacha is a political figure, we can not rule out an attack by his and DPP’s political enemies. As such the DPP expects a thorough investigation by our law-enforcing agencies on the matter.”

Namalomba has since asked Minister of Homeland Security to put matters of security of Malawians as a priority irrespective of one’s political affiliation.
