NRWB hailed for timely project completion

Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has been applauded for setting a good example in completing a water rehabilitation project within the project agreement period.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of the rehabilitated Water Supply Reticulation System at Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Defence, Jean Sendeza said government is always pleased to work with companies that deliver within their project time.

“NRWB should be applauded for finishing this project within the agreed period of the contract; this is what other companies should emulate from if they expect more clients.

“Very soon, a housing project will commence in our barracks, Moyale inclusive; our expectation as a ministry is that whoever gets this contract will finish the project within the agreed time, just like NRWB has done,” she said.

NRWB Chairperson, James Munthali, said the water board was delighted to work on thee project because at the end of it, the trust that the barracks had lost due to exorbitant water bills will be restored.

Munthali added that NRWB can now breathe a sigh of relief since leakages are things of the past and now it is able to save water.

The year-long rehabilitation project, which has cost the Ministry of Defence MK320 million, also included installation of pre-paid metres.

This is expected to help the barracks save about half of its monthly expenditure on water bills.
