Three police officers killed in road accident

Malawi Police Service (MPS) has confirmed of the death of three police officers and two civilians in an accident yesterday along the Lilongwe-Kasungu M1 road at Mponela in Dowa District.

A statement released by the National Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, says the MPS Toyata Land Cruiser pickup had a head-on collision with a Scania Truck, which was trying to overtake another Vehicle.

All the Police officers are from Mponela Police Station and have been identified as Detective Inspector Fredrick Kasuzumira, Sub Inspector Joseph Thawale and a Driver Philipina Benson.

According to the statement, the other two are civilians Vincent Sankhani, 26, from Kaomba Village, T/A Msakambewa in Dowa, Jasinta Kampanyanga, 40, from Kavulala Village, T/A Chilooko in Ntchisi District.

One police officer, Detective Sub Inspector Collins Sibombe, survived the accident but sustained multiple injuries and is currently being treated at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
