Woman burned while rescuing baby after drunk husband set house on fire

KENYA – A 23-year-old woman is nursing burn injuries at a local hospital in Mbooni, Makueni County after she was injured while trying to save her 2-year-old baby on Saturday night.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman, who has been identified as Diana Mutiso, was involved in a domestic altercation wither husband Davis Matata, who had come home drunk.

Moments into the disagreement, Diana is said to have left the house after which Matata reached for kerosene and sprinkled it in the house before lighting it up.

Diana sustained burn injuries on her face, waist, and hands while rushing in to rescue the baby.

DCI states that the baby, however, did not sustain any injuries in the incident, while the mother is in a stable condition.

Police are still looking for Matata, who escaped after the escapade.
