Police Urges Passengers To Board Reliable Transports

Police in the Northern Region have asked passengers to board reliable transports as cases of missing people are on the rise across the country.

Northern Region Spokesperson, Maurice Chapola said on Friday in Mzuzu that  passengers should always notify relatives if they happen to board anonymous transport so that their relatives rush to nearest Police for help in case of any emergency.

He advised the public against travelling in vehicles without registration numbers as one might not be aware of reasons behind one not displaying the number plates.

“Night hours are very scary moments and people should avoid boarding vehicles which they found they are a lot of occupants as the motive might be questionable.

“One should notify relatives or police once they board unfamiliar vehicle so that they know where to look for in case the passenger is in danger,” Chapola said while recommending that passengers should be moving in groups in case they are attacked,” said Chapola.

One of the taxi drivers in Mzuzu City, Peter Mathewe said that residents should be cautious when boarding a vehicle as it better to delay on a journey while waiting for a familiar means of transport that rushing into a vehicle whose owner or occupants they do not know.

In the month of October alone, four people have gone missing without trace after the vehicles they supposedly boarded went missing.
