Several People Left Homeless After Stormy Rains Destroyed Houses in Ntcheu

Several people have been rendered homeless after stormy rains destroyed their houses at Mtentha village, T/A Chakhumbira in the district last evening in Ntcheu.
According to Kandeu Ward Councilor, Flanes Kampeni, at least 27 houses and two churches have been affected by the disaster.
Kampeni added that, with no reports of injuries, affected households are temporarily sheltering in nearby churches beside relatives accommodating others.
Spokesperson for Ntcheu District Council, Maston Kaiya says assessment of damages is currently underway.
In other news, a 70 year old woman has died while another one, 55, injured together with two other men after walls of their house collapsed on them last night following stormy rains at Kwitanda in Balaka.Balaka district hospital spokesperson Mercy Nyirenda has confirmed that the woman died due severe head injuries.
