Two people killed in road accident in Chiradzulu

Two people have been killed in a road accident after the driver lost control of the vehicle they were travelling in and veered off the road due to speeding.

Chiradzulu Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO), Innocent Moses said the accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Namadzi Trading Centre near Namadzi Bridge along the Limbe-Zomba Road.

He identified one of the deceased as Martin Chiwayula, 44, of Chiswe Village from Traditional Authority (TA) Chimaliro in Thyolo while the other passenger, female was yet to be identified.

“It is reported that a motor vehicle registration CP 4413 Mazda Demio saloon driven by Chiwayula was coming from the direction of Limbe heading towards Zomba and upon arrival at Namadzi Trading Centre near the bridge, as it passed through rumble surfaces and due to speeding the driver lost control of the vehicle and went to the extreme nearside where he hit some trees near Water Board offices,” Moses explained.

The PRO added that due to the impact, both the driver and the female passenger sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on both legs and arms and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Namadzi Health Centre.

Meanwhile, the dead bodies are being kept at Zomba General Hospital for identification.
