The government through the Minister of Information Gospel Kazako has announced that it will roll out free water connection by April 1, 2022 as per Tonse Alliance administration campaign promise..
Kazako made the remarks during press briefing in Lilongwe.
He said the roll out delayed due to some processes that had to be looked into.
On hike of water tariff, Kazako said the government is not happy that the tariffs have been hiked.
Minister of Forestry and Natural Resources, Nancy Tembo who was in company of Kazako said, government feels the pitch Malawians are enduring as a result of a hike in water tariffs.
Minister Tembo said some reasons of the hike include a rise in electricity tariffs accumulated for a number of years.
She cited an example of Blantyre Water Board that uses MK1 Billion to pump water but manages to pay MK500 to ESCOM, leading to huge debts.
