Kasungu municipality elects new mayor

Kasungu Municipal Council has elected Councillor Heese Mclean Nyangu as a new mayor during a full council meeting on Wednesday.

Nyangu, who is councillor for Belere Ward has taken over the mayorship after beating councillors Hastings Gundani of Chithiba Ward and Brighton Ngalande of Chankhanga Ward.

Nyangu got five votes, Gundani got three votes, and Ngalande got one vote while one vote was null and void.

The elections were presided over by Chief Executive Officer for the council Fanny Msimuko.

Nyangu has taken over from Councillor Socrates Jere who after his two and a half years of office decided not to contest again.

Accepting his new position, Nyangu said he has taken over when the council is facing a lot of challenges and his wish is to solve the problems.
