Zambia’s Former Health Minister Accused Of Procuring Defective Condoms

Former Health Minister of Zambia, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has trashed rumors that during his tenure he procured expired drugs and defective condoms worth US$17 million.

According to reports the incident occurred in June 2020 when Patriotic Front (PF) was in power with Edgar Lungu as President, the contract was awarded to Honey Bee Pharmacy Limited which was also unregistered at that time.

Speaking to one of the media houses in the country, Dr. Chilufya said he is a trained and a certified medical practitioner who has never and will never expose people to expired drugs or defective condoms.

“I swore to serve lives and I have spent my 23 years of being a doctor in serving lives or building health posts, therefore I would never be reckless,” he said

“We should never defy science for political prudence,”.

The Mansa Central lawmaker further said anyone that may have evidence to the contrary must be put to strict proof.

He added that there was adequate capacity in the Ministry to ensure quantitative of the drugs was properly done.
