Suspected thief killer rescued from angry mob in Thyolo

There was tension in a village in Thyolo district where police rescued 19-year-old, Peter Stauli, from a mob that bayed for his blood on suspicion, he has killed a suspected thief.

Thyolo Police Officer In-charge, Ulemu Kalua, told the press that, the suspected thief Julius Makwasi, 55, was apparently caught in the house of Stauli on December, 18, 2021.

Makwasi was then beaten but managed to run away. However, he neither reported the matter to police nor visited the health facility though wounded internally, until yesterday when he died.

Police said Stauli went to the house of Makwasi to check on him only to be met by the mob that wanted to kill him, until police rushed in.

The suspect, Peter Stauli, comes from Khogodiya village while the deceased, Julius Makwasa, hailed from Mulewasi village, both in T/A Chimaliro’s area in Thyolo district.
