CLINIC ASSISTANT PHARMACIST IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR THEFT OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 26-year-old woman, Lusayo Kaliza who hails from Mchochoma Village, Traditional Authority Kamenyagwaza in Dedza district on suspicion that she stole drugs and other medical equipments at Bwaila district Hospital in Lilongwe on December 22nd, 2021.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Hastings Chigalu has confirmed of the development.

According to Inspector Chigalu, Kaliza works as an Under 5 Clinic Assistant Pharmacist at the said hospital and he was apprehended by security guards Manning the hospital.

“The suspect admitted to have taken the medical equipment from Bwaila Under 5 Pharmacy Clinic where she works upon interrogation after she was surrendered to Lilongwe Police on Wednesday evening after being stopped for checking at the hospital gate while driving a vehicle, Daihatsu Mira, registration number BW 7491,” Chigalu said.

This development comes barely two weeks after Police in the district arrested four Kamuzu Central Hospital workers over theft of 40 packets of hospital gloves.

Among the medical equipments that were found by the guards include;
30 doses of LA, 50 Vials of X-Pen, 10 litres of RIL, 11 boxes of gloves, 11 giving sets, 3 bottles of Amoxicillin Suspension, 2 bottles of Myconova Suspension, 2 bottles of Paracetamol sachets, 2 bottles of Paracetamol Syrup and 1 packet of face masks.
Investigations on the matter are on going and the suspect will appear in court soon to answer a case of Theft by Public Servant which contravenes section 283 as read with section 278 of the Penal Code.
