One die, six injured in road accident in Nkhotakota on Christmas

One person died while six others sustained injuries of various degrees when the vehicle they were traveling in got involved in an accident on Christmas Day in Nkhotakota.

Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Paul Malimwe, confirmed the accident in a statement and identified the deceased as Patson Kaipa of Kapeta Village in Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in the district.

According to Malimwe, the accident, which occurred at Favored Primary School less than a kilometer from Nkhotakota Boma on the Nkhotakota-Dwangwa M5 Road, involved a Toyota Voxy registration number DZ 2064 which was being driven by Yasin Katunga and had 10 passengers on board.

“Upon arrival at Favored Private Primary School, the driver lost control due to speeding and swerved to the dirty verge before hitting an Airtel Money Agent Kiosk where it overturned,” said Malimwe.

Following the impact, six passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment while Kaipa was pronounced dead due to severe head injury.

The driver of the vehicle is said to be at large. When found he will appear in court to answer the charge of reckless driving.
