Zambian woman in court after abandoning her newly born child

The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has committed a 21-year-old woman to the High Court for trial in a matter she is accused of abandoning her child who later died.

Suwilanji Luywa Nyame is charged with one count of child destruction.

Allegations are that Nyame on November 15, 2021, in Lusaka with intent to destroy the life of a child capable of being born unlawfully caused the death of the said child.

When the matter came up before Lusaka magistrate Nthandose Chabala, the prosecution informed the court that the matter was coming up for explanation of the charge. The magistrate explained the charge to Nyame.
