Angry people in Thyolo last night set on fire Bvumbwe Police station after their relative who was in police custody collapsed while appearing before Midima Magistrate First Grade Court and he pronounced dead at Bvumbwe Health Center.
The deceased is identified as Sosten Macheso age 58.
The late Macheso was answering a case of contravening Covid-19 rules and regulations on January 13th, 2022 and the arson occurred around 18:30 hours.
The officer in charge, Senior Supt GM Kalenso and D/Sub insp Kudzala, have sustained some injuries and the assessment of the damage is not yet done.
But Police officers were brave enough as they managed to rescue eleven suspects who were in Police cells.
They all fainted due to smoke caused by the fierce fire, but after the rescue, they have all esusinated.
Currently the situation has just normalized.
