Salima District Council approves a K2.1 billion budget

Salima District Council has approved a K2.1 billion Budget for the 2022/23 Financial Year with a 52 per cent increase from the last year’s budget.

The 52 per cent increase, according to the council’s Chairperson for Finance Committee, Councillor Ester Soko, is because of the length of duration of the ending financial year which is nine months but the financial year to begin (2022/23) will be 12 months.

Presenting the proposed budget estimates to the full council meeting, Soko said when approved, the budget will help the council to improve its service delivery to people of Salima.

“The budget will enable the council deliver various social services to the people of Salima and achieve quality service delivery across all sectors of the council such as financial sustainability; increased agricultural productivity and sound financial management,” Soko said.

Commenting on the just passed proposed budget, Parliamentarian for Salima North West Constituency, Enock Phale who is also Deputy Minister of Health urged the council to ensure that the funds are managed well.
