MCP Accuses UTM of Making Unfounded Claims

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has accused its key partner in the Tonse Alliance, The United Transformation Movement (UTM) of making unfounded claims that most of its members are uncomfortable with President Lazarus Chakwera’s recent cabinet.

Yesterday, UTM spokesperson Frank Mwenifumbo said this to local median when he dismissed rumors that UTM legislatures have written speaker of the National Assembly that in the next budget meeting they will move to the opposition benches.

He later admitted that most of UTM member are unhappy with how things are unfolding in the Tonse Alliance.

Responding to Mwenifumbo, MCP’s publicist Reverend Maurice Munthali accused their alliance partner that what Mwenifumbo is saying is baseless as his party believes in working relationship among Tonse Alliance members is cordial and intact.

Munthali added that there is nothing suspicious happening in the Alliance unless someone is trying to create hatred between the president and his vice Saulos Chilima.

According to Munthali, there is no point in trying to find out why some people are disgruntled saying that every party has disgruntled people.

He went further adding that Chakwera cannot go into everybody’s house to make sure everyone is happy.

“Chakwera cannot be going into everybody’s house to make sure that everybody is happy. We always want to make sure that we run the agenda and incorporate everybody, even those who are disgruntled would see that Malawi is on the right path and they will be happy” said Munthali.

Munthali said if Mwenifumbo is speaking on behalf the party, it is better to sit down and discuss the issues rather than having to go out and say that there is a problem in the alliance.

“Otherwise people will think that we are problems. So far as Malawi Congress Party, we feel that is not the case and if anything, we could have find time to sit down and talk.” he added.

There have been rumors that there are divisions in the Tonse Alliance especially between the two key partners MCP and UTM, but both sides have trashed the rumors.
