Ministry of Homeland Security wages War against Noncompliant Motorcyle Taxi Operators

The Ministry of Homeland Security has warned it will soon engage the Inspector General of police on the next course of action for motorcycle operators that are still failing to comply with the rules and regulations that were put in place in order to reduce road accidents across the country.

This follows the expiry of a six-month period on 31st January 2022 which was given to the operators to comply with all the stipulated safety guidelines.

According to Principal Secretary for the ministry, Kennedy Nkhoma the ministry is yet to meet the Inspector General of Police in due course to do a postmortem of the campaign.

However, one of the operators in the city of Lilongwe Laurent Mzembe acknowledges their failure to comply with rules but adds that it is due to financial hiccups.

In August 2020, the government gave the operators six months to register their motorcycles and sort out other issues that contravene traffic rules.
