7 Cyber Security Tips For Remote Work

The unique culture of working from home has become the “new norm” since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the whole scenario may seem pretty convenient to you at first, there are a few drawbacks to it. Yes, you have guessed it right. We are, indeed, talking about the issues regarding network security.

Working in an official environment is pretty safe, as you get a dedicated network security integration with it. However, such a complex infrastructure cannot be installed at someone’s house. It will not be as affordable as you may think too!

So, how are you going to solve it?

Well, being careful would be the obvious answer in this aspect. However, that’s not possible when you have to surf the internet for work purposes. Hence, to help you a little, we are going to offer some fundamental yet effective cybersecurity tips in this article.

Best Cybersecurity Tips For A Remote Working Environment

Handling a remote working ecosystem, especially during the rise of cyber threats, can be pretty tricky. Therefore, aside from the organisation, the workers have to take some steps to bolster their personal network system adequately. Here are a few of them.

Tip – 1: Use An Antivirus

Whether it’s about countering a malware program or keeping a direct cyberattack at bay – a professional antivirus program can handle everything. Aside from this, such a software module can also save you from DDoS, ransomware, trojans, and other related problems.

You can find and download a wide array of software programs through torrent websites like The Pirate Bay. Nonetheless, we would ask you to buy an official version of the software from the store and subscribe to its yearly renewals.

Tip – 2: Integrate A Firewall

Using an antivirus is alright, but if you want to bolster your network system properly, you must integrate a firewall to it too. Here’s how it can help you out –

  • Averting malicious or irrelevant traffic.
  • Blocking data outflow as a whole.
  • Alerting about a malicious activity or program.
  • Keeping phishing attacks at bay.
  • Filtering unauthorised content from the web.

Besides these, many firewalls also come with unique features, which can improve your network even more. Make sure to go through these aspects of a module before purchasing it.

Tip – 3: Avoid Risky Websites

Sometimes, your antivirus or firewall will ask you to avoid some websites. It may also show a message, “you are trying to enter an unprotected server,” to you. Make sure to avoid these websites as much as possible. Otherwise, it may lead to a malware attack.

Tip – 4: Opt For A VPN

Surfing through the internet in an unprotected manner can put you at risk of phishing attacks. Therefore, to avoid such an issue, we will ask you to download and activate a VPN before going on an adventure on the internet.

It will keep your IP address hidden from everyone spying on the web. Thus, even if you fall into the trap of hackers, they won’t be able to track your activities or actual location in any way.

Tip – 5: Update Your IT Team

An IT team usually takes care of the network system in an organisational environment. Hence, if something catches your attention regarding network security, we’ll ask you to talk to them immediately.

They might ask you to give your system access to them. Do whatever they are telling you, and let them do the rest.

Tip – 6: Choose A Centralised Storage Option

Does your organisation rely upon a server- or cloud-based option for storage? Then, you must use the same for your purpose too. This way, even if your personal files get deleted or compromised, you can always find everything in this secure section.

Tip – 7: Create A Strong Password

Using a strong password is a pretty obvious suggestion. However, many people still tend to overlook this tip and then pay for whatever comes later. Hence, we would ask you to avoid including weak terms like your name or birthday while creating your password.

Instead, use something different, add numbers to it, and make it more than 15 characters long. Also, make sure to change it at least once a month.

Wrapping It All Up!

While working from home, your top priority should be securing your network system first. For that, you can use any end-to-end protective system. Nonetheless, we will ask you to be more aggressive in this aspect and integrate something else into the system. This way, your protective measures will be much more efficient and tackle almost any issue coherently.
