Over 400,000 Condoms to be distributed during traditional ceremony in Zambia

To prevent transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies during Nc’wala traditional ceremony slated for this month end, the host city Chipata has been stocked with over 400, 000 condoms.

Eastern Province recorded 2,859 abortions in the year 2021 out of which 1,536 were deemed unsafe.

The latex materials will be distributed during the ceremony which is expected to attract thousands of local and international tourists especially that the annual event never too place last year due to COVID- pandemic.

Eastern Province AIDS Advisory coordinator Emmanuel Chama said the city has been stocked with 432,000 condoms ahead of the ceremony.

Mr Chama said his office has enough latex materials to cater for the sexually active groups who might want to engage in sexual activities during Nc’wala ceremony period.
