Security Expert Backs Malawi Police On Young Police Recruits

One of country’s security expert has come to the rescue of the Malawi Police Service (MPS) from the public backlash on the allegations that it has lowered its standards by recruiting people seemingly unqualified.

Social media is awash with images of police recruits undergoing police training in various training schools across the country which got people talking.

The surfacing images on social media of some police recruits are looking too young and not meeting its minimum height requirement of 1.6 meters.

However, National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera has told the media that the institution followed all the processes in carrying out the recruitment.

In his opinion, Aubrey Kabisala has called on the public to desist from speculating unverified information on social media, more especially on issues concerning security.

Kabisala then warned that although the country’s constitution grants people liberty to express their views but there is also a law which can drag them to court for speculating stories which are not verified more especially sensitive ones like those to do with security.

“The allegations that the police recruited underaged candidates is hard to prove because the institution, which advertised that it was going to recruit the candidates of aged between 18 to 30 years, has vigorous processes that were followed and it’s hard to argue that somebody managed to beat the system.”

The recruits are currently in various police stations for practicals.

  1. do these look like police material to you??? Lets have proper standards please. We know issues of nutrition have affected our physical development but cant the police learn from MDF??? MDF maintains its very high standards. They still get the right people for the job. aaaaaaaaaaaaa
