Police in Mulanje have arrested two men identified as Elliso Bakayawo 35and Willard Moses, 38 for stealing ESCOM wires on transformer at Namulenga in Mulanje district.
Sub-Inspector for Namulenga police unit, Clement Ng’ona, explained that the two were caught when they were coming back for their clothes since they were naked, so they did not go far, but the other one fled into the maize field where people did not find him.
According to eye witness, they were three people at the transformer who wanted to steal Escom copper wire but they failed because of a man who is believed to be the watchman at a certain house close to the transformer.
The watchman wanted to easy himself and took the direction where the people were, upon seeing him the people fled but left their cloths at the same point, he said.
Currently, the two are at Namulenga police unit waiting to be moved to Mulanje police station where they be taken to court to answer theft charges.
