Police Officers Warned Against Sexual Harassment In Training Schools

Commissioner of police responsible for Training and Human Resources, Happy Mkandawire has warned police instructors in different police training schools against sexual harassment on newly recruit police officers.

Mkandawire made the remarks during a workshop for police officers on sexual harassment at Limbe police training school in Blantyre, organized by Malawi Human Resource Commission (MHRC), in collaboration with Women Lawyers Association.

He said police officers need to exercise discipline for positive image of Malawi police service.

“Sexual  harassment destroys the discipline that we always cherish. When we all stand on discipline, we will perform well as a police service,” continued Mkandawire.

Commenting on the matter, Deputy Director for Gender and Women’s Rights at MHRC, Deborah Banda said one way of dealing with the wicked behaviour is by adopting sexual harassment policies.

The meeting saw female police officers from different districts in Malawi attending the work shop.
