14 –Year-Old Girl Attempts Take Own Life

A 14 year old student at Namulenga Community Secondary School poisoned herself by drinking poisonous substances due to heartbreak.

Reports says Eliza, the girl in question had four boyfriends, three in Namulenga community while the other one who is considered as a fiancé stays in Thyolo district.

On this fateful day, she was spending her quality time with one of her boyfriends in Namulenga not knowing the fiancé was tipped about this, suddenly he arrived at the spot and after a long quarrel the guys broke-up with her more especially the fiancé.

According to the source, Bruno (not exact name) said the girl tried to talk to the fiancé but he could not give her a hearing eye rather than finding his own way back home.

“After the quarrel she went straight to her house since she is a day’s caller and after some 2 hours we then heard that she has been taken to the hospital because she was unconscious”, Bruno explained

Eliza was taken to Namulenga health Centre where medical practitioners diagnosed her of taking dangerous substances which could eliminate her life and after gaining consciousness was referred to Mulanje Mission Hospital for further treatment.

Speaking on the matter, Eliza claims the guy whom the fiancé caught her with is a rapist who raped her last Saturday.

“He raped me when we were coming from the football match last Saturday in a maize garden, and told me not to tell anyone”, she said

Chifundo, the boyfriend denies the allegations saying the female student is his girlfriend and they have had intimacy for several times.

“Eliza is my girlfriend and she should not brain wash you people, we have been getting intimacy for a long time, she says i raped her but it’s a white lie because she asked for it and we agreed to it on that Saturday, what a shame”, Chifundo said with tears in his eyes

There is a possibility that Eliza could be punished for attempting suicide and alleging false accusations on Chifundo according to the constitution of Malawi.
