Charity Shield Funds Benefit Flood Victims In Chikwawa

Funds raised from the charity shield match which was between Nyasa Big Bullets and Silver Strikers amounting to 10.3 million kwacha has benefitted flood victims in Chikwawa district.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) in conjunction with NBS bank through Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) made the donation to 986 households that were affected by cyclone Anna in Tomali, Nanchichi, Nthumba and Medrum in Chikwawa district.

According to FAM president, Walter Nyamilandu, FAM is excited to have accomplished the plans they had of helping the needy especially those affected by the floods in the country.

“We are indeed excited as FAM that the plans that we had to reach to victims of cyclone Anna have been fulfilled, we were very much concerned because that time we were in Cameroon with our the team”, Nyamilandu said.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer for NBS bank, Temwanani Simwaka said they are happy to be one of the teams to help in time of need so that those people should find a relief through the help and they went through with FAM throughout the match and the money which was raised from there was given to MRCS who bought the food items.

“The money was given straight to MRCS to purchase and identify the district which was badly hit by the cyclone Anna or Gombe, so Chikwawa is one of the districts”, she said

In his remarks, President of MRCS Innocent Majiya said they will try as much as possible to look for more organizations to help in time of need.

“We were looking for organizations to help the victims of cyclones Gombe and Anna, NBS and FAM were the first organizations to find us after the charity shield”, he concluded

This year’s charity shield has benefited the needy that were badly affected by the cyclones Anna and Gombe in various villages of the country.
