MCP MP Peter Dimba blasts summoning of Martha Chizuma

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South Peter Dimba has trashed the summoning of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma by the Malawi Police service (MPS) over a leaked audio clip.

Chizuma was summoned for an investigation interview at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe today.

But the interview was cancelled at the 11th hour over reports that ome concerned citizens were mobilizing to demonstrate against the police for summoning the ACB boss.

“The Malawi Police Service has learnt that some citizens are mobilising to demonstrate against the MPS for complying with a court order to interview the director general of the Anti-Corruption Bureau , Martha Chizuma, as a person of interest in a matter about which the court needs to establish facts.

“In the meantime, to create room for the building of public trust in the processes the MPS follows in compliance with court orders, the summon to interview Ms. Chizuma is suspended until further notice,” reads in part the statement.

But Dimba has trashed the summoning.

“This well choreographed script to take Martha down (starting from the unauthorized recording of a private call, the lawsuit in Mzuzu and the Police summon) won’t work in a new Malawi.

“The few mischievous masterminds of this scheme are enemies of this Republic and they will know no peace,” wrote Dimba.

Meanwhile, it is not known as to when Chizuma will appear before the police.
