Police in Zambia are keeping in custody a 26 year old man Mike Banda for allegedly faking his own kidnapping with an aim of soliciting funds through the act.
According to police report, on April 24, 2022 the suspect lodged a report at Chisamba Police Station that he was abducted by five men who were in a Grey Toyota Prado along Manchinchi road in Northmead of Lusaka.
According to Banda, this happened when he was coming from his work place and was detained by the unknown people until April 22, 2022when they released him but took money amounting to K18, 000 from him.
After proper investigations, the police established that Banda was never abducted as he claimed.
Instead he faked his abduction after he lost the money.
Banda has since be charged with Theft by Servant and Giving False Information to a Public Officer, and he is expected to appear before the court very soon.
