Man to hang for hacking nephew in Zambia

A 45-year-old man of Chipata district has been condemned to death after he admitted to hacking his nephew to death on suspicion that he was having an affair with his wife.

Levitice Tembo hacked his nephew, Mwanji Zulu, 30, with an axe on the neck after discovering that his wife, Noami Tembo, 32, had washed his clothes.

The couple had been embroiled in endless marital disputes.

Tembo appeared before Chipata resident judge Mercy Makubalo on one count of murder.

According to court records, on the fateful day, the convict left his house for the central business district to sell gold and upon his return home, he found Zulu and his colleague working on the roof of his wife’s hut.

Tembo was incensed when he saw his nephew’s clothes that had been washed by his wife hanging on a line.

“This annoyed me because I was suspecting him of going out with my wife…”
