Govt Constructs Nanyangu Primary School In Ntcheu

After 24 years of learning in un-conducive environment, learners from six villages in Nkhwani village, Traditional Authority Ganya, Ntcheu district will experience the comfort of learning in a modern classroom block at Nanyangu Junior Primary School in the district.

According to Group Village Nkhwani, the modern classroom block whose construction is funded by Governance to Enable Services Delivery (GESD) will motivate learners from the community to stay in school apart from encouraging the dropouts to enroll back in academics.

“Established in 1998, the grass thatched Junior primary school has been associated with leakages almost every rain season. We even wonder whether we are indeed Malawians or we are living in a foreign country,” Mkhwani explained

Enock Chikaliso, Headteacher for Nanyangu Primary said the development at his school will improve the working conditions and the quality of education at the school.

“We are very glad for the development at our school because this will improve education a lot, for example we do not have enough teachers here due to the conditions we experience, most teachers run away from rural schools to urban schools because of such conditions and some do not even report after deployment due to the state of the school” he said

Chikaliso added that the government should pay much attention to the rural schools in the country as a sign of motivation in order to achieve equality in the education sector for both urban and rural students  because cases of high school dropouts are common in the remote areas not in urban areas.

Henry Mwanvani, Ntcheu District Director of Public Works (DPW) said the project is within the schedule regardless of using local community workforce.

“Iam glad that the construction of the school is within the time frame that we were given despite using the local workers and we believe that by the end of this learning session we will hand over the school blocks to them to be using”, explained Mwanvani

The construction of the school blocks will help learners in the community to have a conducive  learning environment and encourage them to continue with their education hence reduce the dropout rates Ntcheu district.
