MHRC adjourns hearing of s3xual abuse allegations at Kalibu academy

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has adjourned to a later date a public hearing on allegations of administering corporal punishment and s3xual harassment at Kalibu Academy.

This was after lawyer for the academy Noel Masanjo asked the commission to give them time to go through some new allegations made by five people who testified against the school.

Five people, who included four former students of Kalibu Academy and a guardian, gave testimonies of how corporal punishment administered by the school to the students.

Commissioner Sunduzwayo Madise, who chaired the panel of MHRC officials, did not mince words over failure by the director of Kalibu Academy to appear at the hearing.

The Director of the school, Michael Haward, is currently in Finland and according to MHRC is supposed to appear at the next hearing.
