Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Innocent Moses has confirmed the death fellow police officer Sub-Inspector McDonald Wellemu, who based at Mbulumbuzi Police Unit after being hit by a motor vehicle last night.
Moses said the accident occurred around 6pm close to a place called Gogo Kalonga Bottle store near Nyungwe Primary school along the John Chilembwe highway.
He added that after being hit by the vehicle, the Wellemu sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on his left leg and his left arm before being pronounced dead upon arrival at Namadzi Health Centre.
Wellemu came from area of Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo District.
This is very sad, particularly saddened by the demise of Wellemu who has been a friend for almost two decades, and very disturbed by the very cause of death at a very spot where my brother was also hit by a motor bike in 2014… The Zomba road, AKA Chilembwe Highway is casing lots of untimely deaths, in and around Mbulumbuzi, Nyungwe up to Namadzi
