KENYA – Indiscipline or lack of discipline among students is something that’s affecting the society. The use of abusive language, disrespect towards teachers, free fighting in educational institutions, insisting on copying in the examination, ragging, strikes by students, etc. Can be commonly seemed among students. The future seems dark.

Indiscipline among students leads to a situation where the students don’t listen to the teachers and take their own decisions. They often take law in their hand, organize strikes and upset the peaceful life.

It is an admitted fact that students of today are very much different from those of a generation ago. Their strikes are the order of the day and often lead to the worst type of hooliganism.

Currently, a high school teacher from Nandi county is nursing several injuries after allegedly being beaten mercilessly by a Form three student, when requested to que for food.

Aldai Sub-county Police commander in statements to media affirmed the incident saying the student had refused to que as one of the requirements before being served, instead he began beating up his chemistry like a dog teacher, hitting him repeatedly using a sharp object on the head and the fore limb.

The media reports indicate that the teachers together with nun teaching staff at Maraba Secondary School in Nandi County on Tuesday morning marched to the Aldai Sub-county education offices, protesting what they termed as insecurity at their workplace.

According to the teachers, this is not the first time such an incident has taken place, since a female teacher was also beaten by students last year.

“We are going to use all means to ensure that justice is served for Mwalimu. We are no lesser beings,” said Salim Bhakit, the union’s treasurer.

Police issued statement said the suspect by the name James Mungera (not the real name) had gone to kitchen during lunch time for food and when asked to que, he starts quarreling with the teacher.

Upon interrogation, the student confessed that he was intoxicated of bhang and other drugs abuse, which he normally uses at home when left alone.
