A grouping calling itself General Membership of Malawi Congress Party has expressed its dissatisfaction with President Lazarus Chakwera following his decision to appoint Minister of Labor Vera Kantukule as an interim leader when he (Chakwera) and his vice Saulos Chilima were out of the country in April this year.
In a letter signed by the grouping’s publicist Zinenani Magola and Secretary General Alex Major said Chakwera errored in his decision.
According to the two, Kantukule is not a member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and she holds no position in the party, hence not deserving to be left with a government task such as overseeing the affairs of the country.
The two claimed that Chakwera would have left the government in the hands any woman who is an MCP member and have the abilities to lead.
In April this year Chakwera went to Mozambique for a state visit where by his vice Chilima was in the United State of America attending a summit as a result government affairs were left in the hands of Kantukule who is a member of Chilima’s United Transformation Movement (UTM).
The grouping has been advocating that Tonse Alliance does not exist as the MCP and its leader Lazarus Chakwera were the ones on the ballot paper in June 23, 2020’s presidential fresh elections.
Chakwera spokesperson Anthony Kasunda is yet to comment on the concerns raised by the grouping.
