‘Parliament’ Wants Cyril To Step Down Until August, DD To Take Over?

While President Cyril Ramaphosa is currently embroiled in a potential legal squabble over the theft of $4 million from his Phala Phala game farm in Limpopo, there are whispers in parliament that he should step aside for the time being while proper investigations are carried out.

Ramaphosa was again at pains while closing the ANC Limpopo provincial elective conference on Sunday, to explain that the money in question was truthfully attained from sold game or animals on his farm and not proceeds from corrupt activities as some may have alleged.

The president has agreed to allow relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct necessary investigations to clear his name because he believes he has done nothing wrong and has not stolen from taxpayers.

Meanwhile, in a letter sent to the speaker of the national assembly by a member of parliament & UDM leader, General. Bantu Holomisa, suggestions have been made that, the speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula should consider sanctioning investigations into the president to test Arthur Fraser’s damning allegations.

According to Holomisa, the country’s image has suffered greatly from its foreign peers, which could have a negative impact on those looking to invest.

He believes Parliament must play an oversight role because institutions such as the South African Police Services, and the beleaguered State Security Agency have been implicated, or found wanting.

As a result, a slew of constitutional court judges should be enlisted to oversee the process.

Meanwhile, the president should take a sabbatical (step down) until the middle of August. Holomisa also proposed the appointment of an acting president.

It is unclear whether the speaker will agree to Homolisa’s demands; if she does, we could end up with deputy president David Mabuza as our acting head of state for an indefinite period of time, which would be a disaster.

To summarize, not many South Africans trust the former Mpumalanga Premier, owing to a slew of allegations relating to alleged shenanigans that occurred during his tenure as premier.

What do you make of the member of parliament’s suggestion that Ramaphosa should step down?
