Fisherman found dead on Lake Malawi

A fisherman who went missing several days ago after the canoe they boarded capsized due to heavy Mwera winds has been found floating around Mpwepwe area along Lake Malawi in Mangochi.

The deceased has been identified as Yusuf Pius, 22, from Likulungwa Village Traditional Authority Katuli in the district.

According to Police findings show that on the morning of June 5, 2022 the two fishermen including the deceased went fishing on the waters of Lake Malawi in one canoe despite strong winds that the lake experienced.

Reports are indicating that the canoe capsized and the two fell into the lake waters.

Police adds later members of the community organized a search party that discovered the body of the deceased floating after 3 days.

Both Police and Medical personnel visited the scene and concluded that deceased died due to suffocation.
