Four days after the deputy regional chairperson and mayor of ZF Mgcawu municipality in the Northern Cape, Marius Louw, was arrested with his wife, in relation to charges regarding fraud.
It is understood that Low allegedly bought two luxurious automobiles at Thys Auto dealership, and he furnished fraudulent employment documents of his wife to receive a financing facility at WesBank.
However, after some legal process, the cars, a GTI & Ford Ranger were repossessed.

As per the rule, he was expected to step aside from his positions in the party and the municipality.
And Louw has since not wasted time nor resorted to defensive mechanisms, as he tendered in his letter of intent to step aside to the provincial secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, who posted on his official Twitter account that indeed Louw has demonstrated incredible discipline by volunteering to step aside of his volition.

By virtue of being staunch advocates for the renewal project which is championed by President Cyril Ramaphosa, the Northern Cape has been one of the beacons of implementing policies the president has advanced.
In fact, some of the policies developed to deal decisively with corruption, canvassed nationally, have emanated from the province despite holding an insignificant membership.

Suffice to say that, the party which has updated the resolution to debar leaders who are criminally charged from contesting positions, is being represented well in the Northern Cape, who seem to be quite serious about cleansing the movement of rogue elements.

There have equally been concerns that the rule was not been applied fairly, as those who are seen to be aligned with the RET brigade are being targeted in an apparent political purge.
Speculation has also swirled that Louw could be aligned with a splinter group in the Northern Cape which could potentially support a RET candidate at the eagerly-anticipated electoral congress in December.
