Find out how the illness known as monkeypox might affect you

According to the News that is trending on social media. They have announced that a minister of health has realized a case of a person who has been affected by Monkeypox.

Please read the following and educate yourself on how you could be affected by Monkeypox.

What is monkeypox?

The virus that causes monkeypox is a rare condition. Rash and flu-like symptoms result from it. It is a member of the orthopoxvirus family, which also includes the more well-known virus that causes smallpox.

Two outbreaks of a disease that looked like pox in groups of monkeys being used for research in 1958 led to the discovery of monkeypox. Although skin-to-skin contact with an infected person can sometimes transfer the disease, rodent interaction with sick humans is the predominant way in which it is spread. There are two distinct strains (clades) of monkeypox virus, one from Central Africa and the other from West Africa. The milder West African clade is what is causing the current global outbreak (2022).

How is monkeypox spread?

When you come into contact with an animal or a person who is infected with the virus, you could develop monkeypox. Animal-to-person transmission happens when the skin is injured, such as via bites or scratches, or when an infected animal’s blood, body fluids, or pox lesions are directly touched (sores).

Although less frequent, monkeypox can spread from person to person. When you come into contact with the sores, scabs, respiratory droplets, or oral fluids of an infected person, person-to-person spread (transmission) takes place. This typically happens through close, intimate situations like cuddling, kissing, or sex. Although the study is ongoing, it is unclear if the virus is spread through semen or vaginal fluids.

Monkeypox can also spread through contact with recently contaminated items including clothing, bedding, and other linens worn by an affected individual or animal.
