Lundu Police Unit vandalized by angry mob in Chileka

Angry people have destroyed Lundu Police Unit in Blantyre after learning that police were keeping in custody a murder suspect who they wanted to be released for them to set him ablaze.

Chileka Police Station Officer James Mbale has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mbale, the angry mob has also burnt furniture at the police unit.

“In the wee hours today, two people were fighting at a bar at Lundu area in Blantyre. In the process, one man allegedly stabbed the other and he died while receiving treatment at Lundu hospital,” said Mbale.

Police say they later arrested the suspect but the relatives of the deceased wanted the suspect to be released to them to administer mob justice on him.
