Parliament is today expected to confirm the newly appointed Inspector General of Police Merlyn Yolamu.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera appointed Yolamu last month to replace Dr. George Kainja after being implicated in the corruption scandal involving well-known businessman Zuneth Sattar.
Earlier this week, Yolamu appeared before the Public Appointment Committee of Parliament, a committee which is chaired by MP Joyce Chitsulo.
According to information at hand, 17 of the 18 members who were present at the day voted in support for Yolamu.
To be confirmed, Yolamu needs simple majority of votes and if confirmed she will be the second woman to head the Malawi Police Service.
