The Mzuzu Senior Resident Magistrate court has today sentenced Gift Mkandawire aged 23 to pay 350,000 kwacha for wrong Parking and another 350,000 for failing to comply with a traffic police officer directives.
Mkandawire has also been ordered to serve a 20 months custodial sentence on top of the total 700,000 fine.
If he fails to pay the fine he will serve and additional 20 months in jail making it 40 months.
According to court records, “the court reached at this decision considering that traffic police officers are mostly victims nowadays on all roads of Malawi. They therefore also need respect and protection as such the court cannot smile at conduct showed by the convict on the road as he was violent and uncooperative to officers” reads part of the judgement
