Councillor Leonard Chimbanga, DPP MP Mark Botomani in cold war

Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East ward Leonard Chimbanga has lambasted Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament for Zomba Chisi, Mark Botomani describing him as a baby in Malawi politics.

The attack follows the recent Times talk radio program hosted by Brian Banda where Botomani blasted Chimbanga for intervening in Parliamentary affairs despite him being a councilor.

Botomani went further to accuse Chimbanga of being an agent of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) which is being headed by State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.

But reacting to the attack Chimbanga said he started politics way before Botomani.

“I was born into a family of politicians my late grandfather was a close ally of Dr. Hastings Banda. I got involved in politics at the highest level in November, 2002 but because I was working for MRA at the time I played in the background.

“I was mentored by Former H.E Dr Muluzi Bakili, Late Former Veep Justin Malewezi, Hon Moses Dossi, Late Sam Mpasu, Hon Duncan Phoya, Hon Brown Mpinjanjira, Hon Moses Kunkuyu, Nicholas Kachingwe Snr, Atupele Muluzi , Mai Chiponda, Late Mathews Chikaonda, Lucius Chiccio Banda and my hero my late dad, plus two other people i cant mention today,” wrote Chimbanga.

He added: “These are people who contributed and invested their time and vast knowledge to shape me.

“I wonder where Mark Botomani was in 2002 i know his boss was at MBC at the time sharing a desk with my brother Petro Kubwalo as a 3rd rated reporter.

“Today he looks down on me and takes jabs at me because I am a councilor. He considers Councilors as nonentities. I just smile and laugh because inside I feel like everyone in his camp( Leadership) except for Hon Dausi and Sammer Suleiman who was active in football and politics at the time I started are my children they should all carry my last name.”
