Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (UK) has died.

Buckingham Palace announced the news on Thursday night, saying she died peacefully.

She has died at the age of 96.

Former President Peter Mutharika has since joined people across the world in mourning the departure of her Majesty the Queen.

“His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Her Excellency Madame Gertrude Mutharika, and The entire Leadership and Membership of The Democratic Progressive Party in Malawi send their Heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Great Britain, and the Commonwealth for the passing of her Majesty Her Queen Elizabeth 2,” reads in part the condolence message.
