Kazako says Chakwera will not pardon Mussa John, Linda Kunje

Minister of Information and Digitalization Gospel Kazako has said President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will not be forced to pardon former Commissioner of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Linda Kunje and Mussa John.

Kazako’s response follows a plea by leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa asking the President to pardon the two.

Speaking to the press Kazako said the Executive will not be pushed to meddle into the affairs of the Judiciary on the matter.

According to Kazako, the President respects the separation of power by the independent arms of government, and that, he will always follow procedures and conditions before pardoning prisoners.

Mussah John was convicted of illegal possession of Chamba, while Kunje is serving a sentence of 18-months for obstructing President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy in 2020.
