Suspected thief burnt to death in Dowa

A- 38 – year old notorious criminal has been burnt to death by angry mob after being caught stealing goats.

Sergeant Macpatson Msadala Public Relations Officer Mponela Police Station said the deceased has been identified as Geoffrey Faindani.

The incident occurred on October 2,2022 at Mwakana village in the area of Traditional Authority Kayembe in Dowa District.

In the wee hours of October 2, 2022, the reporter went out to answer a call of nature and he was surprised to see that his goat kraal had been broken into and two goats were stolen.

As he was trying to check he heard the voice of a certain man shouting that he had caught two criminals who were trying to steal his goats.

Upon hearing that voice the reporter rushed to the scene where he found one suspect caught while the accomplice managed to escape from the scene.

Questioned about the stolen goats, he revealed that they have tied them in a nearby bush. Faindani (now deceased) led the reporter and other relatives to the nearby bush where they found two goats tied with masks on their mouth.

As they were coming back from the bush, they met angry villagers who snatched them the suspect and assaulted him before burning him alive.
Later, the accomplice of the deceased called through the deceased ‘s cellphone, but by then the phone was answered by the reporter.

They had hidden a motorcycle SanLg, green in colour just a few metres from the village which was being used by them.

Upon receipt of the information, a follow up was made and the motorcycle was found hidden at a nearby bush with ropes and stand which was supposed to be used to carry the goats.

It has been discovered that the deceased was a well known criminal. This information was collected from his relatives who called on his phone.

The scene of the crime was visited by Cid personnel and Clinical Officer from Mbingwa health center who revealed that death was due to head trauma and severe burns.

The dead body has been identified and collected. Inquiries are underway to trace the accomplice of the deceased.

Police in Mponela are still advising all people to avoid taking laws into their own hands.

Geoffrey Faindani,38 years who comes from Vizimba village in the area of Gumba in Mchinji.
