Toyota Fortuner driver arrested after being involved in hit and run accident in Thyolo

Police in Thyolo have arrested a driver of a Toyota Fortuner registration number NN2669 who was involved in a hit and run accident at Mangunda trading center in Thyolo district.

The incident resulted in chaotic scenes as angry villagers blocked the Limbe-Thyolo-Mulanje road last night, forcing the law enforcers to fire teargas.

Officer In-Charge for Luchenza police, Emmanuel Chisoma has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and identified the driver as Dickson Makungwa.

According to Chisoma, the driver of the vehicle had fled to safety after he saw tempers rising when he attempted to assist the child.

Chisoma has also revealed that six people have been arrested for blocking the road.

Meanwhile, the child is receiving treatment at Thyolo District Hospital.
