Man handed 24 months jail sentence for chopping off fingers of a couple

Ronald Fatchi from Chikanzi Village in Traditional Authority in Mbenje in Nsanje District will spend 24 months in prison for bitting and cutting off a finger each of a man and his wife following a disagreement.

Bangula Second Grade Magistrate Linda Chiwanda learnt that Fatchi went to the house of Shadreck Mzika and Alice Action, the victims, to ask for a haircut machine which a relative of the couple got from the convict’s wife.

He was told the machine was in the house but needed to wait for their relative before giving him back. But this didn’t please the convict and resulted in a fight. In the process, he cut-off a finger each of the two.

Chiwanda described the offence as serious offence which she said attracts a maximum sentence of 14 years.

She added the couple suffered permanent harm in their lives and they can no longer ply farming activities as before.
